Colorado based artist Jessica Day is in the spotlight today… well, her work form 2021 is in the spotlight. I am so excited, because on Monday morning I’ll be meeting Jessica in person at the workshop Alexis Mixter and I are hosting in Santa Fe! Whenever people sign up to do things with me, I always go check ‘em out Instagram… and couldn’t help but notice that she hadn’t posted since 2021. Turns out life, etc., has slowed her down, but she’s coming to Santa Fe to figure out ‘what’s next and how to get there’, and I could not be more THRILLED to be on that adventure with her! Stay tuned… follow Jessica on Instagram at @jessicadayart.
Speaking of Santa Fe and Jen Tough Gallery… next Saturday, May 11th my solo show, titled “Witch, please”, opens! Here’s the description:
How can we, as a society, rid the world of inequality, double-standards, and misogyny? Who knows, nothing’s worked so far! Sounds like a great time to dust off some old school witchcraft. Historically, of course, women who were labeled and punished for being “witches” were only guilty of being intelligent women with opinions and ideas who dared to challenge the patriarchy. In “Witch, please”, I’ll do the same.
The show has three types of work : collages on paper, text pieces on panel, and mixed media 3D collage (with talismans!) on panel. My spells contain bits of nature made from clay, chunks of rose quartz, flashes of gold, and a whole bunch of dry humor. This modern-day magic wards off everything from mansplaining and name-calling, to being “grabbed by the p*ssy” and, oh, so much more.
Yep ; ) If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you! (4-6pm).
Have a great weekend ~ Danielle
I can't wait to see "Witch Please" in person in Santa Fe!
Loving your new work!!
