Oooh! Today’s member spotlight is shining on the lovely, geometric, hand-printed fabric work of Calgary based textile designer Charis Birchall:
“My textiles are either block- or screen-printed using water-based, solvent-free inks onto natural fibres. The designs begin as sketches, which become repeat patterns that I either burn onto a silk screen or carve into a rubber block. I’ve always loved textiles, but the first time I realized I would pursue it seriously was when my first-year drawing teacher at the Alberta College of Art & Design allowed me to sew my assignments instead of draw them. I ended up graduating four years later with my BFA in Fibre.”
Yes! Now that is a good teacher! You can find Charis on Instagram at @charisrose. And, speaking of Instagram…
Yep, there’s someone on Instagram pretending to be me. Worse than reposting my posts, they’re DM’ing artists, claiming to be me, and making up stories about having ‘clients’ in Dubai who want to buy all of their work!?!? I am so sorry if you’ve received one of these messages! Please help me by REPORTING them, asap. The handle is @daniellekrysa4 … thank you (seriously, what is wrong with some people!?)
Anyway, enough of that. Have a lovely, creative weekend ~ Danielle
those textiles are so lovely!! Also, hilarious that someone is pretending to be you and saying those things (at least from my perspective it's funny!).
Ugh fake copy accounts are so frustrating! Hope this one blows over soon 🤞
