Today’s member spotlight is shining on the calming, meditative work of California based artist Janet Yano:

“I create meditative watercolor paintings based on the philosophy and poetry of Taoism. Each painting embraces the belief in balancing forces: abstract yet familiar, austere yet intimately inviting, bold yet politely reserved, controlled yet fluid. I start by making small 6x6 paintings and with each larger iteration pair back until it's reduced to its essential form. The repetitive practice of rebuilding the same painting is as important as the final painting. It builds perseverance and a meditative focus. Made with watercolor for its delicate transparency, unpredictable nature and respect for the environment.”
