Okay, when just one of the piece’s list reads — Kurrajong Bottle Tree Pods, Plaster, Polymer Clay, Epoxy, Steel Clamp — you know ‘fear of materials’ isn’t an issue! The weird and wonderful work of California based artist (previously a firefighter!) Annette Goodfriend is in the member spotlight today. Here’s a snippet from her artist statement:
“I create sculptures that explore the intricacies of human anatomy, from the cellular level to the limb. By casting a critical, scientific, and humorous eye on the mutagenesis of corporeal form, I am telling a surreal story of biology. It is a visceral investigation of the perversity of nature, the role of science, and how our bodies both effect and are affected by the world around us … These are surreal science projects of the imagination.”
They sure are, and I love ‘em! You can find Annette on Instagram at @annette.goodfriend.
Have a lovely, creative, cozy weekend ~ Danielle
