American artist Rebecca Reeves, aka @timberchouse, has been in the spotlight before (she’s been a subscribing member for almost 2 years?!), but she’s got a beautiful show happening right now at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia, so we’ve gotta shine some light on all of those of gorgeous, tiny beads! The show is titled “Fading Away” , and this is why:
Beautifully composed of hand-beaded bows and flowers, custom frames, antique remembrance cards, and sermons written or typed by the artist’s grandfather, Reeves’ work carries the weight of grief combined with the delicacy of life as it slips away.
“Although representing mourning or memorial, the hand-beaded flowers in my previous art were full of ‘life.’ In the FADING AWAY series, the hand-beaded flowers have been deconstructed, reconstructed, and aged to reveal their wire skeletons. The beads are sparse and show age and wear. They hold on to ‘life’ through their delicate, wired frames.”
Poetic, personal and so beautiful. This work will be on view until February 18th, and if you’re in Philly, there will be an opening reception on February 2nd from 5-9pm.
My art and I need a little time away to really focus on “us”… so I’m takin’ her to Santa Fe for “MAKING IT WORK : A relationship retreat for You & your Art!” My amazingly talented and insightful friend, Oregon based artist Alexis Mixter , and I will be hosting this workshop at Jen Tough Gallery from Monday May 6 ~ Friday May10th … and you and your art should join us! Here’s the gist…
“There’s no connection quite like the one you have with your artwork. You’re always together — for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until you are parted by death. Oof. Yes, it’s a pretty serious thing you two have going, and it deserves some nurturing to keep that spark alive. (Let’s be honest, all of us have stopped talking to our art at some point, even if just for a few days to cool down after a really big disagreement!)
In this 5 day retreat we’ll take a deep dive into what’s going on between you two … what’s working really well, and what could use a little tweaking!" ~ Danielle & Alexis
It’s going to be so good! There are still a few spots left, so if you’re interested, take a closer look / sign up soon.
Happy weekend ~ Danielle
The attention to detail in those beaded flowers is incredible. There IS beauty in decay. And the workshop sounds incredible. Wish I could be there.
My day always begins with your email, even before getting out of bed. No matter the day of the week, art starts my day. It’s not too much and not too little, they’re just right - like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. BUT… What an incredible email to wake up to today! Beyond honored and gave me that kick start to get back in the studio to work on my next adventure. Thank you for all that YOU do. Thank you for the artist spotlight. Can’t imagine my day without the Jealous Curator saying, rise and shine art world!
