I just discovered this gorgeous work by Canadian artist Cheryl Deblette… and then I realized she was a subscribing NSTATMA member! Well helloooo, today’s Saturday spotlight:
Cheryl finds beauty in natural and humble materials. Favourites include wood, wool, wire and antique finds. Exploring the attributions of the materials she collects influences her own unique purist style. With contemplation, she brings them together with deliberate balance and structure. Experimentation generates a constant evolution in her one-of-a-kind works.
Sigh. So beautiful. You can follow her online at @cheryldeblette… she currently has 87 followers, so let’s change that!
Yep, Toronto based Bahamian artist Gio Swaby is back on the podcast! She was on seven months ago, but since then her career has exploded… clearly, we need to hear everything! From articles in the New York Times and interviews on oprah.com, to five (FIVE!) museums acquiring her work! Also, can we talk about Gio in that dress at LACMA’s “Black American Portraits” opening gala!? Okay, I just realized I ended every sentence with an exclamation point… um, HOW CAN I NOT!? Look/listen on my site, or download ART FOR YOUR EAR wherever you get your podcasts!!! Yep, three more for good measure.
Have a lovely, creative weekend ~ Danielle
Thank you so much for the feature Danielle! I just about fell out of bed and spilled my wakeup coffee all over the place when I got my daily dose of nstatma this morning! What an exciting way to start the day. So many feelings… there will be a skip in my step into the studio this morning! Aaaand how amazing to be in the company of Gia’s feature?! Looking forward to the podcast!✨
Gia. Wow. Need to see that work in person. And yes that dress!
