This. All of this makes me soooo happy… everyday objects, made out of paper mache, at a little kitchen table New York City. This is the weird and wonderful work of artist Bernie Kaminski :
Kaminski’s sculptural practice started inadvertently after his daughter brought home a paper mâché seahorse she made at school. As a way to amuse himself and his family, he began building paper mâché versions of common objects found in their apartment.
His creative process has remained intuitive, as each work is imbued with a sense of play and reflects the artist’s personal insight into the real object, with a key focus on nostalgia for an era gone by. Elevating the craft of paper mâché and the importance of items generally considered banal—from a manila envelope, a Kodak film roll, and an autographed baseball to the New York White and Yellow pages, a Zabar’s mug of pencils, and a stack of 1960s National Geographic magazines—Kaminski encourages pondering of the intimate possessions that constitute our day-to-day and the culture they represent. ~ TURN Gallery
And he still works on his kitchen table, which makes me love this quirky work even more! You can find Bernie on Instagram at @berniekaminski.
