Ah, that first piece reminds me of a starling murmuration! Vintage B&W photographs of Sweden paired with transparent and clouded glass beads… soooooo, dreamy. Amanda Tholen Long is today’s ‘society member in the spotlight’. She is an American artist living in, you guessed it, Sweden. Here’s a snippet from Amanda’s bio:
“… though trained in sculpture … a needle and thread are my favorite tools, and I am rarely without them. Working out landscapes I'm surrounded by in the form of a quilt, and hand beading landscapes to describe our relationship with the sun (and, sometimes, here in Sweden, the absence of it), have been recent interests.
Yep, I’m waiting for the sun in Canada, too! You can find Amanda on Instagram at @amanda.tholen.art, and her available ‘Swedish Landscapes’ right here.
I’m pretty sure she’s looking up at my very official — although very tiny — case-crackin’ badge! Australian artist Rachel Burke, aka @imakestagram, was on the podcast as my ‘artsy expert’ for the latest creative case I was trying to solve. We were discussing a two “every day” issues. The first was sent in by society member Sara Wilson, about being so busy with everyday life, that when it’s finally time to create she tenses up and gets too precious. And, the second question came from Krislin Virkus. She asked how/when you know your work is good enough to go from a hobby to your every day, jobby! I put on my badge and called Rachel in… listen wherever you download your podcasts, or WATCH and listen to this case episode on Youtube.
Have a great weekend ~ Danielle
I would love to see the "Dear Arty" questions (and comments) condensed into one link, just like the "Jump Day" prompts. I think a lot of folks have some of the Dear Arty issues, so it would be helpful to jump straight to the questions and answers. Thanks!
Cool, thanks for bringing photography
