Collages, and monoprints, and lithographs, oh my! But which is which?! I had to look quite closely to figure it out while browsing through the colorful, joy-filled, abstract portfolio of Barcelona born, Kansas City based artist (and printmaking professor at @kcartinstitute) Laura Crehuet Berman:
Laura creates images inspired by the natural world that layer time, space, form and color together. She is equally mesmerized by the miniscule and the monumental; supernovas exploding into far away galaxies and ancient oddly-shaped pebbles that have never been touched before. Her work reflects the connections between these expanses and details within space, and how even the smallest action can create a cascade of events and phenomena.
I love that her printmaking pieces become collages… and I’ll bet those collages end up inspiring new prints. Ah, the circle of creativity. You can follow Laura on Instagram at @bermanlaura, and her available artwork can be found right here.
YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT — over and over and over again!? Yes. Today’s jumpstart is a combination of two unblocking prompts from my friend, Philly based artist Martha Rich:
No.1. grab a sheet of paper… or an old book cover, or piece of cardboard, anything you don’t care about. No.2. Draw your favorite dessert. No.3. Now, draw it again and again and again until the whole surface is covered in cake, ice cream, or whatever works for your sweet tooth. The old paper and the repetition serve the same purpose… to remove any preciousness that might slow you down! Now, why dessert? Because it’s delicious! Personally, I’ll be drawing a chocolate donut topped with a dollop of whipped cream so many times that I’ll have no choice but to go pick some up for later tonight! YUM. Have fun, you can’t do it wrong.
Happy Jumpday ~ Danielle
This was the bit of fresh air that I needed this morning!
