I turn on the news and, once again, I am at a loss. What to say, what to do. I’m not sure, so I will do what I do, and share the gorgeous work of Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova. I was lucky enough to see her “Second Hand” series at the Venice Biennale a few years ago:
“… the concept of ‘second hand’, we are talking about buildings that have passed from one owner to another. Objects that formally resemble clothing are lined with original tiles from the walls of a building or enterprise. Tiled ornaments transferred identical to their placement on the walls.”
The pieces above were created using tiles/spaces found in Odessa and Kyiv. Follow Zhanna on Instagram at @jannkad. I hope she and her family are safe.
Lush, candy-hued, sort of imaginary landscapes brought to you by the “Magical Memory Paintings” of American artist, author, and pattern designerJennifer Orkin Lewis, but you might know her as @augustwren. I love the idea of these magic memory landscapes, and I love Jennifer’s words about why she’s making them:
“I’m thinking about where I want to be, where I was and where my mind takes me … [the landscapes are] part what I see, part memory and part just inspired by the place and time and friends.”
Sigh. Beautiful.
Lots of love to you and yours in this crazy time ~ Danielle xo
I'm still in awe of what is happening abroad. Sending good thoughts to the families in Ukraine. Love the work by the Ukrainian artist that you shared. So unique.
Danielle: Are you going to have an art for your ear episode soon? I miss it. It’s so wonderful to hear. I hope you’re okay. It’s okay if you can’t right now. Just wanted to let you know you and your artists have been missed by me
