“Plant Based”, “Balanced Breakfast”, “Devil’s Lettuce”, and a “Crock Pot” in progress. Ahhh, I do love a good pun, and I’ve always been a fan of art with a wink. These sculptures are the work of New York based artist Lindsey Lou Howard, and this is an excerpt from her artist statement:
Primarily working in ceramics, her sculptures engage with contemporary food politics, revealing food’s entanglements with environmental justice, capitalism, consumption, and sustainability. Howard’s food piles and food towers merge culturally defined “desirable” or “indulgent” foods to draw attention to American consumption practices and the often intertwined emotions of desire, pleasure, addiction, and guilt.

You guessed it, puns will be our prompt today! This is the clever work of Lizzie Darden… her Instagram feed is filled to the brim with beautifully styled puns. Okay, so pick a pun (google if needed) that draws a picture in your mind — like Chair-y Pie, Ear Rings, Fir Coat, Shoulder Pads, or Crab Cake, for example — and do what you will! Paintings photographs, drawings, or cute little illustrations like these!
Happy Jump Day ~ Danielle
