Soft sculptures… FOR YOUR HEAD!? This is the weird ‘n wonderful work of French artist Séverine Gallardo. What is the ‘why’ behind these amazing, sculptural, felted / crocheted headdresses? From what I could dig up, Séverine often refers to this anthropologist’s quote whenever she’s asked:
“However, in the thought of [Indigenous Americans] and also in doubt elsewhere, the headgear fulfills the function of mediator between the top and the bottom, the sky and the earth, the outside world and the body. It plays the role of intermediary between these poles; it unites or separates them as the case may be. ~ Claude Lévi-Strauss, Anthropologist (1908-2009)”
‘A mediator between the sky and earth’. Love. You can follow Séverine on Instagram at @severinegallardo.
Aaaaaaaand, exhale. So, spoiler alert, San Francisco based artist Leah Rosenberg is on the next episode of the podcast (Saturday)! We talked about her many collaborations with artist Susan O’Malley… for example, this magical “Healing Walk” at Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA. If you’re ever in the area, grab one of Leah’s colorful walking sticks and walk the trail watching for Susan’s signs! Even if you’re not close to this lovely project, may I suggest heading out on your own healing walk. Remember to look up, and leave your worries there.
Happy Thursday ~ Danielle
