Beautifully drawn ‘granny squares’ are in the member spotlight today! This is the work of Oakland based artist Melissa Louise Bolger. You can see the detail and care that goes into each of these large-scale crocheted drawing, which is probably because this ongoing series is an ode to Melissa’s mother. It started from the Afghan her mother made, which was given to Melissa later in life. You see, her mother died tragically when Melissa was only 21 years old, and so “the drawings of crochet squares began as a way to connect with her spirit, and keep her alive.” So beautiful. Melissa’s available crochet drawings are in her shop, and you can follow Melissa on Instagram at @melissalouisebolger.
A brand new episode, as promised! Today's artsy investigation takes a look into the WHY and HOW behind "ART and JOY", and oh so much more. If you've ever wanted to write a book but aren't sure how to get started, or you're curious about why I made the jump from adult art books to kids' books, all of the answers await! You can listen wherever you download podcasts, but I’d suggest WATCHING on Youtube because A. I do that now, and B. then you can actually see the art I’m talking about ; )
Have a great weekend ~ Danielle
