This was an accident, but it’s kinda fantastic… apparently, this is “The Betsy” issue:
Ah, the surreal work of Portland based artist Betsy Walton. I’ve been a fan of Betsy for years, so imagine how surprised and happy I was to see that she’s a society member!? [Insert fan-girling moment]. Here’s a description of how/why Betsy does what she does:
[Betsy] paints vivid habitats with richly layered textures and fine details, using Holbein Acryla, a hybrid acrylic and gouache paint that provides highly saturated colors with a matte finish. Walton’s imagery is inspired by microscopic natural phenomena, like the cellular structure of plants or molecules, motherhood, the weather, mindfulness practice, and printmaking techniques.
If you want to know even more about Betsy, check out her Instagram post from last year… my favorite part: “In high school I had a job feeding sea urchins grape slices in a cellular biology lab.” YES! Follow Betsy on Instagram at @betsywalton, and find a few of her available pieces at Zinc Contemporary.
As promised, another Betsy gettin’ it done in the art world! Three of Betsy Enzensberger’s melting popsicles have just been acquired for Delta Airlines’ SkyClub at LAX! The lounge just opened a few days ago, so if you happen to be going through Los Angeles, see if you can take a peek into this art-filled space enroute to wherever you’re going! You can find this Betsy on Instagram at @betsyenzensberger, and her available work are in her online shop.
Have a lovely weekend ~ Danielle
