WOOD. Even the sweatshirt!? This is the stunning work of Italian artist Christian Verginer. If his style, or his last name, seem familiar… you’re exactly right:
… After attending a course in Fine Arts in Carrara he later started learning from his father, Willy Verginer. [Christian’s] limewood sculptures focus on human beings of which the model is visually presented in its anatomical perfection. The artist explores the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature, where tradition and innovation, truth and fantasy come together in a realistic language.
You can find Christian on Instagram at @christianverginer… and his dad at @verginerwilly. Oh, and did I mention that his brother Matthias is a sculptor too? Si. The three of them share a studio in Italy, and they’re all represented by VCRB Gallery (Antwerp Belgium). Quite a family!
I thought this was a lovely way to start a new week. Humans have a tendency to compare themselves to others, and as artists — well, we like to take that to a whole new level. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: if you make the work you want to make, the way you want to make it, and there’s no way it won’t be special. So, are you ready? Go be a mermaid (and don’t worry about what the fish are doing).
Happy Monday ~ Danielle

I wasn’t familiar with Wood’s work. I fell in love with it. So simple yet so profound. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE the mermaid part in the second half!
