The wallpaper! The rugs!! The paintings!!! This is the latest work by American artist Crystal Latimer, and it’s installed right now at Paradigm in Philadelphia:
“FINE HOUSE” is an expansion of Latimer’s 2020 solo exhibition with Paradigm, KEEPSAKES, in which Latimer used colorful tapestries depicting affirmations of strength to ask the viewer to find their own inner power. In “FINE HOUSE”, Latimer instead brings those affirmations into the physical space by also delving into home furnishings. The exhibition features eight tapestry paintings depicting moments of power, such as bears in battle, and reinterprets them through a delicate process and medium by using acrylics, gold leaf, pastel crayon, and cotton fiber tassels. Latimer chose to work with local creative businesses, Tuft the World and Butterfield Editions, to create three collaborative pieces.
Looooooove! “FINE HOUSE” will be on view at the Paradigm Arts Building (12 N 3rd St, Philadelphia) until July 30th. To see all of the available work, check out Paradigm’s site, and you can find Crystal on Instagram at @crystallatimer_art.
This is the always stunning work of Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, and it’s part of an exhibition of contemporary ceramics, titled “Obrigado à Terra (Thanks to the Earth)”. The show just opened in June at Palácio Cadaval in Évora Portugal. The lineup of artists is unbelievable, as you can see, so if you’re anywhere near Évora between now and December 10th… GO! *Photos by @francisconogueiray
