Painting with… wool!? So, I’m deathly allergic to wool, but I’d be willing to hold, lie on, or, more appropriately, hang this fabulous work by American artist Rachel Collier:
[Rachel’s] work focuses on the release of internal visual language held in the emotional body, resulting in imagery that is radically uplifting, riding the line between the mysterious and the familiar. Her materials are activated by a meditative and repetitive process rooted in non-representational painterly tradition.
If you’re in Aspen this summer, you can see some of her work in person at Skye Gallery’s summer pop-up at @1aprojects alongside @harveyprestongallery (Wednesday ~ Saturday, 11am to 5pm OR by appointment info@skyegalleryaspen.com). You can follow Rachel on Instagram at @rachelcolliermwa.
I totally forgot about this lovely little gem from 2011… have you seen Midnight in Paris? Paris is always great, but it’s even more fabulous in the 1920’s! “While on a trip to Paris with his fiancée's family, a nostalgic screenwriter finds himself mysteriously going back to the 1920s every day at midnight.” Starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Carla Bruni… it’s nice ‘n light, and a good one to have on in the background while you’re making whatever you make! Watch the trailer right here, and you can find the full film on Netflix, Apple TV, YouTube, etc.
Happy Friday ~ Danielle
Her work is truly amazing, loved how the different textures combine in the third piece. Is it punch-needle felt the second picture and the central part of the third? Thanks so much for sharing such inspiring artists!
I love your newsletter, one of the few good ones on Substack. Would you be open to. Some kind of collaboration- mine is called Art I Love...https://gfroehlich.substack.com/
