Detroit based artist Sarah C. Blanchette is today’s ‘member in the spotlight’. I’ve loved Sarah’s powerful fiber artwork for ages, not only because they’re visually fantastic, but because each piece has so much to say. Here’s the title and story behind the first two pieces above:
You tell me or show me : the undulating, empty sack hung from basement piping is a visual representation of the mental and emotional process I go through when processing the flaws of my body.
You’re Too Good Looking to Be This Size : a musing about a statement that my doctor made to me while administering my yearly physical—with his mouth close to my ear.
Ummm, WHAT the actual what? Thank goodness Sarah is an artist, and can turn that absolute bullsh*t into something beautiful and important. You can find her on Instagram at @sarahblanchettestudio.
Okay, this isn’t art related content, but I have to share … 17 years ago today, the sweetest boy in the world was born. Our family is spending the weekend celebrating this funny, kind, generous, empathetic, handsome, smart kid. Happy birthday, my sweet baby boy. Mommy loves you! (Yep, I can say allll of that freely… because he doesn’t get this email! #momsaresocringe)
Happy weekend ~ Danielle
Of and also, the titles are the best. I love them.
What the f@ck???? Don’t even get me started about patriarchy.
I’d rather dive deep into the sumptuous colours and textures of this gorgeous work.
