I’ve featured American artist Sheila Metcalf Tobin in our member spotlight before, but I really wanted to share her upcoming workshop: “25 Drawings Project” at Jen Tough Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico!
25 Drawings Project: An experience to broaden the exploration of drawing, composition, mixed media and experimental techniques. Through investigating a single object or image over and over again with different methods and from different perspectives, artists gain a familiarity with, and a muscle memory of their subject that allows them to push past their usual comfort level and default drawing style. For this project you will focus on drawing a singular object or image of your choosing. As your drawings and ideas develop through this project and/or if you reach a place where you feel stuck, ask yourself where you want to make progress in your practice. The answer could be to explore a new medium(s) or to loosen up your approach to drawing. The main goal of this project is to experiment playfully with mediums and methods as you create 25 or more engaging and exploratory compositions.
It’s such a special place (I was there for a workshop last May), and Sheila is such a lovely and talented person. This workshop takes place from October 23rd through 27th… you’ll have your own studio space, and be surrounded by other artists embarking on the same exploration. I predict magic! You can learn more / SIGN UP right here.
You guys… my latest kids’ book, “ART and JOY - Best Friends Forever”, is doing really well and my publisher wants to GIVE AWAY a copy to THREE of you as a little celebration! Just pop over to my latest Instagram post to enter. Good luck… thank you to Prestel for doing this, and huge thanks to all of you for making this book such a success!
Happy weekend… may it be filled with creativity & caffeine ~ Danielle
Many years ago ( it was therapeutic ) I did an activity similar to this that I considered " liquid knitting " tubes of acrylic liquid applied to certain lengths of cloth. Of course, Ms. Metcalf - Tobin has DEFINITELY had more experience. Impressive, indeed.
Sheila’s work is so beautiful. I am the proud owner of one of her small pieces. Her workshop promises to be an incredible creative experience in a magical place.
