Embroidery / photography on bedsheet + one really big rock. This is “Cm’on. Get up.” by Michele Landel, an American artist based in France. She completed this piece during France’s first eight-week COVID lockdown in 2020… and, wow, she totally nailed it. Actually, I still feel like there’s a huge rock on me. Here’s Michele’s description:

“It is not that the rock is impossible to carry, but with her hands at her side and nothing under her eerie smile, the woman embroidered onto the bed sheets is unable to pick up the rock and move. Instead she greets the viewer with an empty stare and vague smile as if everything is fine, she is not lying on the ground, and the rock is not there.
By cutting eyeholes in the fabric, I created a mask and am encouraging the spectator to imagine crawling between the bed sheets, there to be protected from the plague and to hide from the world, but also feel the rock, which is there to represent the domestic burden that has become heavier and heavier.”

Almost exactly one year ago today, my first kids’ book hit shelves. I’d been dreaming of that day since I was about seven years old but, unfortunately, COVID had other plans for my book launch… aka, NO book launch. Okay, fine, I’ll do a book tour in the fall of 2021… no? COVID won’t let me do that either?! Alright then, how about a BOOK GIVEAWAY!?!? Yes, I can make that happen!
