Poppies and oranges and pears, oh my! Today’s member spotlight is shining on the work of Australian illustrator and pattern designer Seeta Roy. Do I need that moth pin? Yes, yes I do! Follow her on Instagram at @seetaroy_, and find a few of Seeta’s pins in her shop.
Obviously, you know I love art, but if you listen to my podcast you’ll also know I’m a tiny bit obsessed with solving crime…. well, listen to this:
Death of an Artist “Carl Andre and Ana Mendieta were a textbook example of opposites attract. Two artists: a white man known for minimalist sculptures and a Cuban woman breaking barriers for performance art. Ana and Carl each pushed the boundaries of art and changed the trajectory of art history. It could have been a love story... but instead, it's a tragedy.
On September 8, 1985, Ana fell from the 34th-floor window of Carl’s New York apartment. Carl was charged with murder and the art world divided – some couldn’t believe an artistic genius was capable of such violence, and some blamed him for Ana’s death. In the new podcast Death of an Artist, curator and art historian Helen Molesworth revisits Ana’s death, the trial that followed, and asks: Is it possible to separate the artist from the art?”
I’d never heard this story, but I’m about to. You can listen to “Death of an Artist” wherever you get podcasts. Have a great weekend ~ Danielle
ps. If you’re in the Vancouver area, I’ll be on Granville Island (at the Net Loft) on Monday September 26th, to unveil the work I created in collaboration with Lover’s Tempo! They’ll have their gorgeous jewelry there, and I’ll have the 5 PIECES I created using their leftover bits and pieces! I’ll be there from 10am ~ noon, and 1 ~ 3pm.
