Oil paintings. Yep, even those shoes! Today’s guest on ART FOR YOUR EAR is Nova Scotia based painter Celine Gabrielle. She is hilarious, talented, and pretty much an unstoppable force. Celine’s story is filled with twists and turns and pivots and then a few more turns. Oh, and for those of you who keep emailing me to ask for the episodes to be longer, well, have I got a treat for you… Celine and I ended up talking for TWO HOURS. Yep, get your coffee and art supplies, and we’ll meet you in the studio! Look / listen on my site, or subscribe on Apple Podcasts.
Bears in the spotlight! This is the lovely work {oil on linen} of American artist Sarah Becktel. Now, Sarah paints more than bears but, oh my word, I just love her recent series, titled “Ursus”. Here’s a snippet from her artist statement:
Sarah creates paintings and drawings that are inspired by animals, natural history, and ecology. She travels extensively to view animals in their natural environments and many of her works are a result of her experiences in nature … Her work explores the beauty of the animal kingdom and the delicate balance of conserving Earth’s biodiversity. Sarah hopes that her work allows viewers to both connect with the natural world and consider how human civilization continues to impact the animal species of our planet.
Such a beautiful message along with these beautifully painted creatures. You can follow Sarah on Instagram at @sarahbecktel.
ps. perhaps this work strikes a chord for me because we’ve had a guest in our backyard for the past week. We’ve named him ‘Barry’, and here he is IN our plum tree. FYI, there was not one plum left when he was done. He’s ready to hibernate. I hope.
I guess all of the stereotypes about living in Canada are true, eh? Have a lovely weekend… see you on Monday! ~ Danielle
