Wowza. Just a few rich, vibrant and beautifully painted pieces by today’s ‘member in the spotlight’, Philadelphia based painter Elizabeth Bergeland:
“My work is founded on the search for nuance, and a desire for the questions to take precedence over the answers. Recently, (and for the first time in my painting career), I have turned my attention to male bodies—painting men in my life and speaking with them about their experiences surrounding masculinity, insecurity, and the roles society expects of them. Also, I wanted to flip the script: to instead put male bodies in the canvas via the female gaze.”
Yes, yes, yes to all of that! A few of Elizabeth’s paintings are available through Paradigms Gallery, and you can follow her on Instagram at @elizabethbergeland. (Bio photo by @joymasiphoto)
ps. If her work looks familiar, it’s because I featured Elizabeth’s most recent series in a Monday post this past May. Gorgeous. All of it.
Have a wonderful, creative weekend ~ Danielle
Very bold and creative. Love Bergeland’s reasoning for using male bodies. Brilliant and about time for the reversal.
I love the vibrant colors in these paintings!
