Sweets are bad for your teeth… especially when they’re GLASS & CERAMIC! This is the work of American artist Shayna Leib, and specifically, a few of my favorites from her “Patisserie: American Series”:
The “American Series” holds a special place in my heart as many of these creations are tied to personal memory … Though not as elaborate, refined, or elegant as their French equivalents, these desserts are delightfully frivolous, playful, and colorful. (They are all handmade from glass or ceramic, which includes the plates, cups, glass jars, cherry stems, sprinkles… everything but the wooden sticks in the caramel apples!)
Check out the elegant “French Series” on Shayna’s site, and follow her on Instagram at @shayna_leib. ps. If you need proof this is actually glass, watch this video of Shayna making blueberry topping for this cheesecake!
After a long, creative life filled with painting and teaching, American painter Wayne Thiebaud passed away on December 25th at the age of 101. To get a peek into what happened in his studio over the years, watch this engaging 4 minute video in which he talks about his start, his work, his inspiration. Rest in peace, Mr.Thiebaud, and thank you for all of the beauty you created.
ps. I thought he might appreciate Shayna’s work. I sure do.
Have a lovely day ~ Danielle
