The final image does a little bit of everything… scale of work, photo of the artist, tight dance skills. This is San Francisco based painter Tom Colcord, and I’m shining the society spotlight on his “Maximalist Landscapes”: “I am fascinated by something our brains do called perceptual restoration wherein they “fill in the blanks” using memories to fill in peripheral vision. Therefore, we can never really see everything quite at once. In order to try and create an image that is as true to the subject as possible I take a maximal approach, returning to the same location everyday, painting layer by layer, adding every detail I can, in order to end with something that should be close to the truth.”
