Inner poetry, indeed! Today’s ‘member in the spotlight’ is Toronto based artist Aadila Munshi, and this is her most recent series: “My latest collection, ‘Inner Poetry’, prominently features my personal handstyle. At the intersection of calligraphy and graffiti, this dynamic script is distilled from the layers of my urban abstracts and my sketchbooks. In this series I have magnified and presented it in lyrical form on canvas. The new paintings are an eloquent manifestation of my inner poetry and perspectives. In these elegant calligraffiti forms, I intuit my own fortitude, femininity, and belief in the necessary state of interconnectedness (Ubuntu) for the human race to evolve, exist peacefully and prosper.”
Danielle - thank you for featuring one of my favourite artists! I’m lucky enough to have a piece from the first Inner Poetry collection. For Toronto-based art lovers, Aadila will be showing next week at the Artist Project at the Better Living Centre from April 11-14, booth 606.
Beautiful work! I love the almost message of it, keeps you coming back, the street vibe vs graffiti vibe is so cool!
Hope you’re feeling better Danielle.
