Whoa. These lovely acrylic paintings are all from a series titled “Shrouds” by today’s member in the spotlight, Vancouver based artist Jana Rayne MacDonald: In this series, Jana ventures further into the language of cloth, through the critical element of the obscured body. Here, surface and substance collide while communicating the ‘social self’ of both viewer and objective self. What is not shown is most important. This self is left fully to the interpretation of the viewer. The work elicits often contradictory and confused emotions based on personal, cultural and political memories, allowances and fears; often misunderstood and possibly even unjustified. Hence, the beauty of the work can be simultaneously uncomfortable.
Love the paintings by Jana Rayne MacDonald - they are indeed haunting signifiers.
Also, really enjoyed your YouTube vid of 1st episode of “crits and coffee”. So, if I am not mistaken you like dark roast? Me too. Although I am too old to drink quite as much as you seem to …. Anywho … stay local. Contact Rocky Mountain Coffee Company - tell them if they don’t sponsor you, we will “Kick (their) Ass” !! LOL!
And I look forward to next episode where I am hoping to see all those witchy pieces coalescing!
Also, I should have added that I have no relationship to Rocky Mountain other than my darling husband makes coffee every morning with their beans and every morning I say “thank you, what a great cup of coffee.”
