I finished a drawing that I have been niggling at for EVER! I kept self doubting, thinking it looked more new age-y than I wanted. Then remembered “done is better than perfect’ posted it (@artsiobhan, if curious), and got a ‘exquisite!’ compliment from one of my fave artists! Now moving on! which is another win! :) And BRAVO to you for cleaning studio! mine is threatening to collapse on top of me!
Yaaaay, two new episodes!!! I really miss listening to your episodes in my studio while I’m working.
My win is that I was able to come up with a new idea for a potential art installation and my client like it. This all happened while I was dealing with my kiddos end of the year event/projects and packing for our trip.
I packed and sent off artwork for a group exhibition and got into a beautiful state of flow twice last week while deinstalling a wall of decals, seeing more and more possibilities and falling in love with the process all over again and then again while planning a new decal work in response to a call for submissions on the theme of seeds.
Oh those are great wins below, and I can't wait for the podcast, and I want to be your BFF too. My wins were that I got a piece through the first round of jurying for the Maui Arts and Cultural Center Biennial, round two next week. Also I finally put a huge figurative piece in the kiln, it cracked when I set her down, but hopefully I can seamlessly mend her with some new fixer stuff I just found out about. Oh and I got to see (and edit) my FOUR PAGE spread for create magazine issue #51. Its so COOL to see it all fancy like that!.
I love Trophy Tuesday, celebrate this wins! I photographed some paintings (one of the barriers I put in my own way) and reached that elusive flow state during a painting session :)
Nothing like an extra day off the day-job to bump up the win department in the heart-job. I CRUSHED my art biz to-do list yesterday - online course collaboration videos review, exhibition finalist submission submitted, some video editing and even managed to get a paintbrush wet with a few layers of paint put down on some experiments. It was a darn good day!
As for wins, I finished sewing a second micro poem… (they take forever and it’s pretty hi-intensity work …by which I mean I’m holding my breath and saying to myself, ‘don’t F it up’ the whole time, haha) but I finished it yesterday 🙌
Thanks for the reminder to pause and hi five ourselves —even in the middle of a very long project, for the wins!
My win this week is fulfilling a goal of completing 10 new pieces for a series I had been thinking about and researching for over a year. Next week I'll be hanging them in my local library for the month of June and I'm so excited to parade my kids past them when we go to story time. "Your mom did those!!!"
I started taking care of my youngest granddaughter two days a week. That sure cuts into my art time and energy level. That is not a complaint, as I adore her and enjoy our time together. It just means that my wins are extremely small. I made some art in my art journal. Yay!
What a joy to be able to spend so much time with your granddaughter! My grandson comes to our house once a week and sleeps over, most of the time. Luckily he loves creating with me in what he calls and is indeed now our studio. Hopefully your granddaughter does too! It's so much fun! Hurray for art journals too.
yay, indeed... and maybe there'll be inspiration for new work that comes from hanging out with her (have a notebook handy on the days you're with her to jot down ideas/inspiration that you might notice through her eyes)
What a tease! Can't wait to hear about your next NEW thing, Danielle.
Wins...subtle. I spent an inordinate amount of time on a two week lesson. Struggled. Hard. Came up short but I'm still okay with it. Lessons learned and already put into practice on THIS weeks lesson. And I'm calling it a win!
Also. On the non-art side, finally got some flowers transplanted in this cold, rainy weather we've been having. Making lemonade but seriously Mother Nature, would turning up the heat be SO BAD? (just a teense is all I'm askin sheesh)
Learning a lesson, never mind how long it takes, is a BIG win in my book! Especially when you overcome the struggle. And being ok with the outcome Which is in fact 2 other wins, right?! 👏
I finally figured out how to work with my collage festival colleague in the same spreadsheet. Once you know it, it's soooo easy, but we're both digitally challenged 😉.
I walked in a huge protest in a tshirt recently made with one of my protest collages on it.
I'm missing making work for myself right now but with festival organizing there's just no time. Tiny wins: dreaming about what to make, researching a bit, sitting in my studio between festival tasks enjoying the possibilities. Ohhhh and finding 2 amazing bound vintage magazine books!
